Data sanitization is the process of securely erasing data from storage devices to prevent unauthorized access. As the amount of data generated by individuals and organizations continues to grow, the need for effective data sanitization methods becomes more critical.
How to choose the best data erasure software?
Choosing the best data erasure software for your needs should not be a daunting task, but it’s essential to ensure that sensitive data is securely erased from storage devices before they are retired or repurposed.
Common data security mistakes
The growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to significantly influence the data market, presenting a surge in data storage needs and driving the demand for efficient data wipes. As AI algorithms continue to evolve, their hunger for vast amounts of data to train and enhance accuracy will lead to exponential growth in data storage requirements. This blog delves into the growth projections and the implications for data wipes amidst the AI boom.
AI affects the data market
The growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to have a significant impact on the data market. As AI algorithms continue to evolve, they will require ever-increasing amounts of data to train and improve their accuracy. This will lead to a higher demand for data storage, which in turn will require additional drive space and more frequent data wipes to ensure the security of sensitive information.
The role of ITAD in the circular economy
ITAD, or IT Asset Disposition, plays a critical role in the Circular Economy. The Circular Economy is a model that aims to eliminate waste and keep resources in use for as long as possible, by creating closed loops where products are reused, repaired, or recycled.
Safeguarding your business and compliance
Data sanitization is the process of permanently deleting or destroying data from a storage device to ensure it cannot be recovered. In today’s digital landscape, the protection of sensitive information has become paramount for businesses.

Data Wiping vs Data Erasure
Ask most people on the street what the difference is between data wiping and data erasure, and you will most likely receive a blank stare or a shoulder roll. But in the world of data security, the differences can be legally significant.
Both data wiping and data erasure are methods that are commonly used to delete data from storage drives such as physical hard drives, solid-state drives, USB drives, and/or memory cards.
v2.4.10 End of Life
Effective March 31st 2023 we will no longer support version 2.4.10 and older. Beginning April 1st, 2023, WipeOS will only support version 2.4.11 and greater. If you are at software version 2.4.11 or greater there is no need to upgrade.
DoD or NIST?
It’s funny that client’s are still requesting a three-pass wipe (DoD wipe) of their hard drives because they believe that a 3-pass wipe must be better than a 1-pass. The thought was that if it was good enough for the Department of Defense, it must be the best solution.

M.2 NVMe Drives
WipeOS was one of the first to unlock the latest M.2 NVMe SSD devices. These Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) is an open, logical-device interface specification for accessing a computer’s non-volatile storage media usually attached via PCI Express bus. These are Solid State storage devices, which do not use the ATA or SAS protocols. They speak directly over PCI, no translation needed. This leads to much higher speeds and bandwidth.
SAS and SATA drives
WipeOS supports all of the most common storage devices. Two that we see very often are the SATA and SAS drives.
WipeOS supports a wide variety of storage devices.
WipeOS reports all pertinent details of the hard drive before the wipe begins. This can help businesses determine if a drive is being wiped for security and compliance reasons or for reuse and resale.
Format drive after the wipe
We recently added the ability to format a drive after it has been wiped. This can be used to add value to the process.
Ontrack certified solution
WipeOS is a compliant data erasure software used to permanently erase data from a variety of storage devices. The software follows all standards for media sanitization to help enterprises, governments, ITAD’s & service providers perform permanent data erasure without leaving any traces.
Accurate Data Collection and Record Keeping
In the past technicians have spent a lot of time manually entering details such as make, model, serial number, CPU, RAM, motherboard, hard drive, ethernet, wifi, keyboard, display, speakers and camera functionality. Now all this can be done electronically.
