WipeOS supports a wide variety of storage devices.
WipeOS originally began as a data erasure solution. Over the years we have worked with our clients to develop something even more powerful. WipeOS reports all pertinent details of the hard drive before the wipe begins. This can help businesses determine if a drive is being wiped for security and compliance reasons or for reuse and resale.
SSD/HDD
WipeOS supports a wide variety of storage devices. This month we are looking at SSD/HDD drives.
Drives can be either Solid State Drive (SSD) or Hard Disk Drive (HDD). An HDD has a piece of spinning ceramic with read/write head jumping around the disk. HDDs are a type of non-volatile storage, retaining stored data even when powered off.
A Solid State Drive has no physical movement of actuators, heads or monitors. It is based on NAND flash storage, with nanoparticles being charged or discharged in situ. An SSD has much quicker read/write times than an HDD and has become the preferred technology used in many devices.
WipeOS is a secure data erasure at its core. It’s what it was originally designed to do and it does a great job of doing it.
